Turn 3D Palace Into Anime Background Without Drawing

Let me, before beginning the explanation, inform you that since 2022 I have completely stopped drawing backgrounds for manga and anime alike, and this is due to two reasons, the first is that it drains a lot of time and effort.

The second is that I am not that good at drawing buildings, streets, etc., so I finally knew the best method used by the majority of manga and anime artists, which is 3D backgrounds.

Download the software used from Here

Including this mansion that you see below, I dedicated it to be the residence of the main heroine of the manga #WSICY, and since I started designing a simple animation for it, I will show you all the steps, so follow me.

1

First, we must prepare the 3D model that we want to convert into an anime wallpaper. You can use any 3D program available in your hands, such as "Sketchup" or "Blender", and the the last one is free.

2

After we choose the shooting angle, we export the scene in the form of a 2D image, through the option

File > Export > 2D graphics

Thus, we will have the desired image

3

We add the image to your favorite drawing program, whether it is "Photoshop" or "Clip Studio".

4

By clicking on the image layer with the right mouse button, we click on the option:

Convert lines and tones

And this one will turn this picture into a ready-made, inked drawing

5

A window like this will appear in front of us, you can modify the options or keep them as they are

And here is the picture turned into a drawing without the need for drawing, oh my goodness! This way you can start by coloring or using the colors of the palace itself, with some modifications

Pay attention to these notes with me, you will find that the drawing is divided into layers, I will explain to you how.

  • Inking: It is as in the previous picture, the entire drawing is in black ink without colors

  • Colors: They are the same as the colors of the palace, and we have repositioned them under the inking layer and shown them because we want to use the same colors without changing "it is up to you if you want to change the colors." White

  • Background: just a white background, which can be changed later with clouds, for example

We will now add a new layer above the color layer, and through the option above the layers, we will find the word “Normal”, we will click on it and choose “Overlay”.

This option will add a beautiful effect to the palace, as we will color some parts of the drawing slightly to highlight the color and give the palace a glowing character similar to the style of Japanese anime wallpapers, so do not ignore it!

7

As you can see here, with the soft brush tool, we add a few harmonious colors from the palace colors, such as yellow and orange, each on one side without exaggeration, in order to highlight the colors only, and do not forget when you are done adding a “mask” "Clip to layer below" That is, these colors will be intended to appear on the palace and not the entire drawing, and I added a note at the bottom and the mark in red

8

At this stage, we will adjust the color contrast in order to obtain the best possible consistency, through the following options: Layer > New correction layer > Hue/ Saturation/ Luminosity These are the options as you can see

9And this window will open in front of us, modify it as the image appears in front of you, you can modify in another way, but these are the options that are suitable for the colors used

10

We add a new layer above the ink layer, and color it all with this “ navy blue” color, and add a “mask” to the ink layer.

This is an optional step, but it will add aesthetics to your drawing and take it to a higher level. The black color will not appear sharp, but it will reduce the blackness in the ink layer.

Watch how the drawing looked more beautiful and similar to the backgrounds of Japanese anime ,when we changed the color of the ink from black to navy

The last step is to add a blue sky background, either you draw it, or you add a ready-made drawing from the library

And here is the final result, we designed a background for our anime without much effort, and even without the need for drawing, and this is an effective method for those who are not good at drawing, or for those who want to save time, and the most beautiful thing is that the result has become similar to anime backgrounds, and this is what we wanted Always, I hope that you apply the steps to any drawing you want, to be as impressive as this.
